Community Planning & Care Coordination

A Project Funded by the Northland Foundation

Earlier this year, North Shore Area Partners was selected to participate in the Northland Foundation’s Integrated Rural Community Aging Program as one of eight Community Planning and Care Coordination Project sites. As our first step, North Shore Area Partners gathered a coalition of community stakeholders which met for the first time earlier this month. Over the next few months, we will assess our community’s existing services, identify gaps, and develop an action plan to increase awareness, access, and availability of services and support to help older adults and their family caregivers age in their homes and communities of choice. We will have two years to implement our plan with funding support from Northland Foundation. If you are passionate about helping our community meet the needs of its older population, you are welcome to join us. Monthly meetings are held online with the next one on August 19th. Questions? Please call 218-226-3635.

We're Moving this Fall!

Renovation will begin shortly on North Shore Area Partners’ future location at the Silver Bay shopping center. Signs will go up, walls will come down, and a space will be created to better serve older adults and our whole

community.

Bringing Generations Together

Bringing generations together during COVID-19 has presented a challenge for the North Shore AGE to Age group, a project funded by the Northland Foundation and fiscally sponsored by North Shore Area Partners. “Let’s sing to our neighbors who are quarantined in their homes!" was one idea put forth by our Outreach Coordinator Nancy Christenson and her fellow members of the North Shore Singers. And sing they did, on the sultry afternoon of July 7. “Thank you for visiting!” was the joyful refrain from all ten households who received visits from the singers. “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” and Woody Guthrie's “This Land is Your Land” provided a “day-breaker" according to one listener. A total of 27 residents enjoyed the unexpected performances - including individuals, a multi-generational family, and a coffee group of stay-at-home neighbors in their garage. In gratitude, three school age girls offered up their own song to the traveling singers.
