Hands high-fiving

History

North Shore Area Partners (NSAP) was founded in 2003 by a handful of community members passionate about providing care for local elders that supports their choice, dignity and independence as they age. NSAP organized around the principles of the Living at Home Network (LAHN), which is made up of community-based programs that provide health and long-term care for seniors. NSAP is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt nonprofit organization overseen by a board of directors who represent the communities served, including Beaver Bay, Silver Bay, Little Marais, Finland, and Isabella. NSAP provides volunteer-based services that include assisted transportation, meal and grocery delivery, chores, and friendly visiting. Staff members also provide care consultation and individual support, and organize a variety of social, educational and informational programs.

In 2019, NSAP expanded its services to include in-home assistance provided by trained home health aides. A Minnesota Department of Human Services license (245D) enables NSAP to provide housekeeping, home management, and personal care for older adults living at home. NSAP uses a sliding-scale fee with a goal of ensuring all elders receive the care they need regardless of their income level.

In 2020, NSAP acquired by donation a spacious building in downtown Silver Bay where it has developed an area for staff offices, community gatherings, and meeting rooms. A medical equipment loan closet and a legal aid kiosk have been set up as part of the effort to make this location a one-stop-shop for aging services and support in the North Shore area.

Moving Forward

North Shore Area Partners' ongoing mission is to support independence for seniors with the vision of all elder residents connected to and cared for by our community. We value the dignity and worth of all people, the power of community and working respectfully and professionally. The foundation of our program is the dedication and generosity of our volunteers and the commitment and caring of our employees. The respect and trust of our community is demonstrated through their volunteerism and donations.

Our solid organizational history ensures that NSAP is well-positioned to deliver home and community-based services to older adults well into the future, playing an essential role in enabling these residents to remain safely in their homes and engaged in their communities longer than otherwise possible.
